CARSON CITY
Carson City was named the capital of Nevada Territory in 1861, and was designated the
official state capital three years later. Carson City started as a trading post in Eagle Valley
in 1851, providing goods and services to those traveling to California. In 1859, the
Comstock Lode silver strike sparked a major wave of migration to the area.
Today, Carson City is approximately 153 square miles in area, situated in a high desert river
valley approximately 4,730 feet (1,440 m) above sea level, with a population of approximately 55,000.

For Recreation, there are endless choices, which include visiting the large number of
museums and historical exhibits/places, water and winter sports, world class golfing, hunting,
fishing and scenic trails for biking, hiking and horseback riding.
